Playing on a Tuesday night to 20 people and making little money and cramping up in a van and going back to the hotel room we all share is something I can relate to. Definitely sucks. I'm just discovering this band and they're very good. Too bad they didn't make anything happen. It was in 1989 so curious that they didn't at least get in on the tale end of the 80's metal scene like Skid Row or Slaughter or Warrant and others. I'm going to be checking out their albums. I'm sure someone has uploaded it. Rock on!!!

Guitarist Tony Bruno has continuously worked since, the band almost reunited but it didn’t pan out financially. 2 very underrated albums unfortunately.

I still hear a lot of 80s stuff on the radio. There’s good and bad from every era in my opinion let’s stop shaming others for what they like and just enjoy the music grunge isn’t Eddie’s cup of tea and that’s fine.

Saraya was getting a lot of airplay back in 89. Their song “ Fire to Burn “ is great. They were on Polygram record label. Same label as Def Leppard. You would think with that big of a label they would have been huge. They were touted as the next Bon Jovi being from New Jersey like them. The record label wanted Sandi Saraya to wear leather bikini tops and tight skirts. She wasn’t having it. She made it a point to blend in with the band on the album cover. You can’t tell she’s a woman really. That’s how she wanted it. She wanted to make it on the merits of their music not her sexuality. Maybe it was lack of record label support and grunge getting ready to happen, but this was a band that should have been huge. They wrote some great tunes. 30 plus years later and I still listen to the 2 CDs they recorded. I play guitar and had aspirations of touring when I was younger. I knew other guys that did tour and they all told me, yea it’s fun the first year, after that? It becomes a job. Routine. They said they wake up and aren’t sure what city they are in. On a Monday or Tuesday they would sometimes play a club with 10 people in attendance. They made barely enough touring to pay their bills and eat. All these guys told me that unless you get a record deal and become popular enough to draw a big crowd every night? It isn’t sustainable. I realized, yea, ok, I have an expensive hobby. Keep the day job. But, if I had a singer like Sandi Saraya ? Of course I’m going to give it a try. Who wouldn’t. ? Sad , they didn’t blow up like bands like Ratt.

This was SIX MONTHS OUT. I bet the place was full if they curtained off half of it. Ringo always tours with a top notch lineup, it’s not just him it’s a bunch of people who have sold tens of millions of albums. The Toto guys etc, Peter Frampton, Joe Walsh, Roger Hodgson from Supertramp. They always sell out.

I'd love to hear Saraya record new music and hit the stage again as I never got the chance to see them back in the day. The caller, Aaron had a genuinely inquisitive question and was more than likely approaching it from the comparative trend of so many other bands from the same era, who may have split up back in the day, but at some point several years later were maybe enticed back together for a few festival shows and a potential reunion album. Trunk really needs to wind his neck in. He's always been staggeringly full of himself. There's considerably more tactful ways to answer questions.

I lived in California in the 80’s and never heard of Saraya then. I’m wondering if they had much promotion outside of the east coast. I heard their blackbird album about 10 years ago and was very impressed. It’s a great album.

Eddie trunk is such a retard First yeah saraya was managed by q-prime a huge artist rep but the agency largely concentrated on thier big names and ignored saraya its just the way it played out. Polydor thier label was famous for signing bands and not promoting them they just pushed what gained traction and bands ran with a woman in front had lesser chance. What happened was sandi and her boyfriend greg munier (rip) broke up and he left the band that was the death blow eddie is full of shit they had a buzz and a growing following look at the comments on youtube threads some in spanish, french and russian they caught peoples ears unlike trunks fucking garbage. Sandi has 5 kids and 4 beautiful daughters and last i knew was a barrista in southern California and there were rumours of a band reunion for and festival in england guitarist tony bruno is still playing the drummer is a sucessful miami lawyer but the money wasnt right. Im still hoping for a show someday you never know. Fuck eddie trunk overblown hack who blew someone for a job.

Even though I recently discovered and really like Saraya (especially the whole When The Blackbird Sings album), I have to admit that he makes some very valid points here to this caller as to why Saraya did not achieve greater fame/success. I had wondered the exact same thing. I've listened to 80's hair metal (and all its variants) since high school and never heard of Saraya until this year, and I never even heard them on the radio when I was growing up. Eddie proved my suspicions as to why I've never heard of the band before, but that does not take away the fact that I dig the band and will continue to listen to their music!

I worked at a record store and ( I also played in Atlanta and knew tons of future bands) and had inside into the labels. Saraya got ZERO label support...they were signed by a guy who the label didn't like, or have a grudge against, and they did not support any of his bands. And I knew who they were back then and so did many other people. We sold a ton of their records/cassettes just off our local radio who played "Back To The Bullet" on a fan request show late on Sunday night. It got popular locally/regionally.

@@igorsiqueira3001 The band was lead by the female lead singer& the guitar player. Those labels had so many people who were signing bands and working for them they didn't know what anyone else was doing. If a band got signed by a guy...and his boss didn't like them...they got shorted support by him and thus didn't get any. And many games were played with other labels and bands and even musicians. The stories are endless.

Eddie’s wrong … love has taken its toll was a hit single back then… that’s how I even found out who saraya was… they just fell into the same bs with grunge coming in and 80s music being a thing of the past… many of the 80s groups got paid millions by the recording execs to stop playing the 80s sound… I saw an interview by Jack blades of night ranger on UA-cam… so what it comes down to is many bands sold out their fans to accept millions to change their style to appease the greedy record execs at the time…. So sad because such great talent was thrown away….
